Okay, can we just talk about the weather in Seoul tonight? I know it snows here, but tonight hit different. It wasn’t that slushy, gross rain-snow mix; it was full-on, magical, movie-set flurries. I’ve been drowning in assignments lately, so I desperately needed a break. I decided to head over to Seochon (one of my absolute favorite neighborhoods—it’s like the hipster younger sister of Bukchon Hanok Village) to find somewhere warm to hide out.
Walking through the streets was honestly surreal. The streetlights were catching the snowflakes, and everything was quiet and muffled.
A moody shot of the snowy night sky with a street lamp illuminating the falling snow flakes. It looks blurry, artistic, and very emotional.
The vibe outside was literally straight out of a K-drama. I may or may not have pretended to be the main character for a solid 10 minutes.
I wandered around until I found this spot called Italy Chonggak (which translates to something like “Italy Bachelor” or “Italian Guy”—kinda cute, right?). I hadn’t been to an Italian place in Seoul in forever. I feel like when you study abroad, you try so hard to eat only local food, but sometimes you just crave carbs and cheese.
The Atmosphere: Maximum Coziness
Walking in from the freezing cold was the best feeling. The interior is super cozy. It’s not trying too hard to be ultra-modern or minimalist like a lot of cafes in Seoul. It feels lived-in and warm.
A wide shot of the restaurant interior showing the wooden tables, warm yellow hanging lights, and people dining. The atmosphere looks bustling yet intimate.
There’s a lot of wood, warm lighting, and it just feels… safe? Like, it’s the perfect place to defrost your fingers and toes. It’s definitely casual. It’s not the kind of place where you need to dress up in heels. It’s very “come as you are,” which is exactly what I needed on a snow day.
A shot looking out the glass door. The text “PIZZA & PASTA” is visible on the glass, and through the window, you can see the cold, blue-toned street outside, contrasting with the warm amber light inside
Sitting by the window watching the snow fall while being wrapped in the warmth of the restaurant? 10/10 aesthetic experience.
The Food: Honest Thoughts?
Okay, let’s get into the nitty-gritty. The food.
I ordered a pizza and, of course, a beer because it’s Friday (well, close enough).
A top-down view of a Margherita-style pizza with fresh basil and a mug of draft beer on a wooden table. A side of pickles is also visible.
Here is my honest take: It’s solid.
Is it the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life? No. Is it high-end, fine dining? Definitely not. But you know what? It doesn’t need to be.
The taste is exactly what you’d expect for the price point. It’s decent, simple Italian food. The dough was chewy, the cheese was melty, and the tomato sauce had a nice tang. It’s not “blow your mind” gourmet, but it’s comfort food. Sometimes you go to these fancy places in Gangnam and pay $30 for a pizza the size of a cracker, but this felt reasonable.
It’s the kind of place where you go for a casual dinner with friends where you actually want to hear each other talk, or a low-pressure date.
The Budget Breakdown 💸
As a student, this is the part I care about the most. This place is pretty wallet-friendly.
I got a draft beer—they have Kelly on tap! If you haven’t tried Kelly yet, it’s this amber lager that’s been taking over Korea lately. It was 6,000 KRW (that’s like… $4.50 USD?).
Beer: 6,000 KRW
Vibe: Priceless (cheesy, I know, sorry!)
For the price, the beer was crisp and refreshing. Honestly, pizza and beer is a combo that never fails, and for 6,000 won in this economy? I’m not complaining. It wasn’t amazing, but it was good. And “good” is sometimes exactly enough.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a Michelin-star Italian experience in Seoul, keep walking. But if you are in Seochon, it’s snowing (or raining, or you’re just sad and cold), and you want a cozy, unpretentious spot to grab a slice and a cheap beer? Italy Chonggak is a safe bet.
It’s cozy, reasonable, and gets the job done. I left feeling warm and full, and honestly, that’s all I wanted from tonight.
Stay warm out there, guys! Catch you in the next post. xx
